Uptown

Don’t let those shiny cars, toys and hot bodies fool you, the 130 year-old neighborhood’s got soul!  In addition to the 100 or so restaurants, bars and clubs, 4 hotels, 4 live theaters and a smattering of galleries and shopping primarily at West Village, it’s home to 4 historical cemeteries, the largest collection of Victorian Homes in Dallas and remnants of a Freedman’s town. They are serviced by an open-air street car system referred affectionately by locals zipping down McKinney as, “that damn trolley!”.  Don’t pass on Cedar Springs or the offshoot streets, there’s plenty there also.  In recent years the resident numbers have grown to mirror the work population and why it’s hopping all the time.  A lot is packed into the 1/2 half mile wide and one mile long neighborhood.

Does Net Neutrality Loss = The New Ghetto

As a growing small media company owner, some of you know of my involvement in lobbying for Net Neutrality, which is the continued absence of regulation in regards to the Open Internet and something everyone should agree on and embrace.  This critical issue will be decided, as called by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski yesterday.  In the grand scheme of things, this affects all of us so today I’m encouraging all of you to learn about and support Net Neutrality and to encourage the FCC Board, located below, to vote against a Tier System on the Open Internet on December 21, 2010.

I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change!

No movie scene has ever made me squirm in my seat and cover my eyes in embarrassment more than when Jon Favreau’s character, Mikey in Swingers who pathetically conducts a relationship on an answering machine and goes from trying to set up a first date to “this just isn’t working out.” in a series of messages within a few minutes with a girl he just met - it’s like looking through your fingers at a car careening towards a brick wall.

Dallas Architecture Forum

Timothy J. Hursley

Architectural photographer, Timohty J. Hursley will be the featured speaker at the upcoming Dallas Architecture Forum Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at the Magnolia Theatre.

In 2003 and 2004, Hursley photographed the Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock (see below).  Hursley’s photographs, on view at the Historic Arkansas Museum, documented the center’s construction from the ground up.  According to Polshek Partnership Architects, “The William J. Clinton Presidential Center is located within a new 28-acre public park along the south bank of the Arkansas River, directly east of downtown Little Rock. The integrated architectural and site design transforms a former industrial site of old warehouses and undeveloped open space into a singular destination that is an integral element in the revitalization and expansion of downtown Little Rock.”
