Tish Hinojosa in concert
As part of her U.S. summer tour, Hinojosa will perform songs from her newest CD, Our Little Planet. Inspired by her rediscovered love for country music, the 12 self-penned songs on this collection feature a deeply Americana mix of traditional bluegrass and Hinojosa’s trademark sound of contemporary folk and Tex-Mex.
‘‘In recent months, I began to feel a longing to recapture some of those country sounds that had touched my heart years ago, and I wrote a few songs to satisfy this feeling,’’ Hinojosa says. ‘‘As fate would have it, I found a box of old demo cassette tapes I had saved. It contained a treasury of unfinished songs from several Nashville chapters of my life. I enthusiastically completed and polished some of these up to introduce them to the new songs that would accompany them on this recording.’’

Mask Performance
Cara Mía Theatre Company brought Mexican Director Alicia Martinez Álvarez and two members of her company, Laboratorio de la Máscara (Mask Laboratory), from Mexico City to Dallas for two weeks to train members of the company and other local actors in specialized techniques of mask performance. Actors have used the mask as a tool to investigate the past and a specific theatrical language and the training has culminated in a workshop performance open to the public.
Nyugalom (Tranquility)
Who wouldn’t channel Shirley McClain at this uber Hungarian Film Screening? Variety says “If Tennessee Williams had written “Where’s Poppa?” sans laughs, the resulting meller would resemble the fearlessly turgid, ironically titled “Tranquility,” a risible variant on “Mommie Dearest.” To his credit, opera director Robert Alfoldi gives the material his straight-faced all, and his thespians respond. Pic will actually play gangbusters to audiences prepped for over-the-top mother-son shenanigans, with bold fest and cablers leading the charge.”
Alligator Mardi Gras
Celebrate Mardi Gras at their 4th annual Fat Tuesday Party and Crawfish Boil. Live music starring the Hash Brown Band, featuring Miss Marcie and Cheryl Arena. The tent party calls for lots of beads, food and a clown for the kids. It’s an East Dallas wingding.

Poetic Valentine
we can’t tell you how many times we’ve heard someone try to explain the restaurant’s location to a newbie: “You know Munger and Gaston? Well, go about a block east and a bock south, across the street from the playground.” The Garden Café has long been one of Dallas’ not so secret secrets for lunch and breakfast but everyone once in a while they open for dinner on special occasions like Valentines and it’s BYOB.
The Claremont Trio
“... astonishing facility and ensemble precision.” -Washington Post
After having performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington and Carnegie Hall this fall as part of their 10th anniversary season, the Claremont Trio is currently on a nationwide tour and will be performing for one night only as part of the Dallas Chamber Music’s season.
The trio made up of twin sisters Emily Bruskin (violin) and Julia Bruskin (cello) with Donna Kwong (piano) was formed in 1999 by the girls at The Juilliard School.
Call to Artist and Artist Lecturer

If you choose to enter, the 7th annual show will make it possible to realize a dream of having work seen in a gallery setting, admired and possibly purchased.
Local Honey Holiday Mix
So, the relatives or friends are in town this weekend for the holidays and you want to show them that there is soooo much more to Dallas than the Cowboys and shopping. Well, if they have a musical bone in their body, you’re going to want to take them to Local Honey’s 4th Annual Holiday Mix at Lakewood Theater, where the amount of musical talent assembled on one stage is sure to blow their doors off.
