Turtle Creek

Although it’s not an Entertainment District, the beautiful 100 year-old, high-rise lined boulevard is home to empty Nester’s and young professionals who love the bird’s eye view and who say, no thanks, to yard maintenance.  Residents entertain themselves in nearby Oak Lawn, Uptown and Park Cities.  The banks of the luscious creek and the greens at Lee Park and Arlington Hall are home to numerous events and festivals throughout the year such as the Easter in the Park Pooch Parade and the Turtle Creek Home Tour.  The Katy Trail; an in-town hike, bike and jogging path open to the public separates Oak Lawn from Uptown and is on the eastern border.

Drop off Textiles for Recycle and benefit Heart House Dallas

Dude, get rid of it! Did you know that 2.5 billion lbs. of textiles are recycled every year? If you want to be authentic Saturday, April 23rd,  drop off clothes, shoes, belts, handbags, toys and stuffed animals, sheets and other gently owned soft goods between 10 am - 5 pm. We know it means spending a little time dealing with closets and drawers first, but The Earth will thank you - and it’s a drive-through.

Does Net Neutrality Loss = The New Ghetto

As a growing small media company owner, some of you know of my involvement in lobbying for Net Neutrality, which is the continued absence of regulation in regards to the Open Internet and something everyone should agree on and embrace.  This critical issue will be decided, as called by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski yesterday.  In the grand scheme of things, this affects all of us so today I’m encouraging all of you to learn about and support Net Neutrality and to encourage the FCC Board, located below, to vote against a Tier System on the Open Internet on December 21, 2010.

Wild Horses

Religion, sexual discovery, child psychology, parental issues, ritual sacrifice …and horses.  The various themes addressed in Peter Shaffer’s Tony Award winning play, written in 1973, could all be the backbone of any narrative if tackled individually, but in Equus the convergence of multiple storylines makes for a production that is uniquely deep and layered.

Look Ma, no elbows?

As a father of two young boys who just lived through a Thanksgiving dinner with a houseful of cousins, aunts and uncles, I can attest that nothing is more satisfying than watching your youngsters school their little kin at the kid’s table if only for a fleeting moment.

LifeWalk LifeBark

Lee Park

Sunday, October 11; Walk at 1 pm;
Festival will take place from Noon to 6 pm

Watching the pride parade surrounded by what seemed like thousands of teens and listening to their comments a few weeks ago, the signs and floats that impressed them the most demonstrated by them cheering enthusiastically were from area religious organizations and churches.  Coming from various neighborhoods in North Dallas, East Dallas, West Dallas, Oak Cliff and Park Cities, they were represented by young children in trailers and wagons and their Moms and Dads were holding up signs that said things like “We believe in the separation of church and hate”  and other similar slogans.
