One of the oldest areas having been founded around the 1870’s, few Victorian homes once owned by prominent Jewish families remain. In recent years, it’s experienced a major influx by artists and designers after a 50 year phase as a light industrial area. What was once a state of the art Sears Roebuck or “Sears on Lamar” by locals - the distribution center is now the historic apartment building South Side on Lamar with artist space for shows. The music clubs and venues featuring artists from around the world coupled with the recent development of affordable condos makes the area prime for growth as the Convention Center located there gears up for the new convention hotel.
