Texas Discovery Gardens

The Texas Discovery Gardens is a 7.5 acre urban oasis. The 10 gardens include a butterfly habitat, a native wildlife pond, a scent garden, a shade garden and an heirloom garden. The gardens were opened in 1936 as the Hall of Horticulture for the Texas Centennial Exhibition.
The gardens are open 10am to 5pm Monday through Saturday and are closed Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults, $2 for seniors and $1.50 for children under 12.

Dallas Arboretum

The Dallas Arboretum and botanical garden covers 66 acres and showcases perennial fragrant gardens, towering trees, and lush lawns on the southeastern shore of White Rock Lake. The nationally recognized display garden features fabulous floral color including 2,400 varieties of azaleas. Beds are changed seasonally, keeping the verdant oasis alive with color. Tours of the DeGolyer House, a 1940s-style Spanish mansion and sculpture garden, are offered. Each year the Dallas Arboretum attracts more than 300,000 visitors to its finely manicured grounds, almost half, of which, attend during its springtime “Dallas Blooms” festival. The gardens are wheelchair and stroller-accessible.
If you get hungry soups, sandwiches and salads are available at either the Lula Mae Slaughter Dining Terrace or the DeGolyer Garden Cafe. You can also enjoy a picnic-but campfires and outdoor cooking are prohibited.
The Hoffman Family Gift Shop features garden related gifts, horticultural items and books.

General admission is $8 for adults, $7 for seniors 65 and older, $5 for children 3-12 and admission is free for Arboretum members and children 2 and under. On-site parking is $5.

The Cooper’s Third Annual Car Show is a definitely a must see for the car enthusiast. We were amazed at the cars in last year’s event and this promises to be even better says Jack Griffin of Dream Garage. Classics from 2008 Ferraris, Corvettes, Bentleys to vintage Rolls and a ‘68 Lamborghini originally owned and driven by Ferruccio Lamborghini will roll in. Concessions from restaurants including Riccardi’s, Chili’s and a whole lot more are available and will benefit the Cooper Institute and Texas Scottish Rite Hospital.
