Oak Lawn

Oak Lawn established itself as a cool neighborhood with real economic and entertainment clout when Pride activism began in the then, working class neighborhood more than 30 years ago.  Together, the many celebrated gay and lesbian clubs, cafes, shops, dance halls and bookstores work seamless with the mom and pop retailers and restaurants started by immigrants several generations ago. With the recent re-lo of so many non-gay urban dwellers who are attracted to the upscale high-rises, town homes, variety of restaurants, events and office towers; Oak Lawn, long comfortable with itself, continues to set the tone for the rest of the city in regards to renewed business energy and inclusiveness.

Helen of Pasadena

Satellite Sisters radio personality and author Lian Dolan was recently at NUVO on Cedar Springs signing autograph copies of her new charming novel, Helen of Pasadena.

It’s not surprising the novel debuted on the Top 10 List on the Los Angeles Time Best Seller List.  “The fast-paced story is of one woman’s triumph after her world is turned upside down and is smart, witty and entertaining.  It has an appealing mix of social satire, a woman overcoming disaster, and good old-fashioned romance.” according to owner Jon Bonsignore.  “It takes a fun pop shot while celebrating the upper middle classes whose comic sting and accurate depiction of life will ring true in towns across the country, and it’s a fun read no matter where a person lives.”

Does Net Neutrality Loss = The New Ghetto

As a growing small media company owner, some of you know of my involvement in lobbying for Net Neutrality, which is the continued absence of regulation in regards to the Open Internet and something everyone should agree on and embrace.  This critical issue will be decided, as called by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski yesterday.  In the grand scheme of things, this affects all of us so today I’m encouraging all of you to learn about and support Net Neutrality and to encourage the FCC Board, located below, to vote against a Tier System on the Open Internet on December 21, 2010.
