Mockingbird Station/Midtown

This district has it all.  We just wish there was more of it.  It’s comfortable and has easy access from Lakewood, M-Streets and Park Cities.  Before Mockingbird Station on the northeast corner of Mockingbird and I-75 Central was built, the land was where Dallas’ original Dr. Pepper plant was located.  The mixed use development consists of an indie movie theater, shopping, restaurants, a mix of retailers and personal services, offices, apartments and a light rail.  A hotel across the street on the southeast corner, is a fabulous mid-century that underwent a complete re-do.  It is also home to excellent personal services, salons, restaurants and residences.

Stoney’s Bottle Bargains - proud home of ALL WINE ALL THE TIME @ 30% off - will host a Wine Tasting with Proprietor and wine connoisseur Stone Savage.  Savage has built a solid reputation for finding delicious, well priced and lesser known wines.

A few of his picks are the ‘07 Healdsburg Ranches Chardonnay. “This unoaked chardonnay sourced from Sonoma County is crisp, clean varietal and is an excellent value at $10.49.  Pair with Fettuccine Alfredo and Roast Chicken.”  The ‘04 Cristom Syrah says Stoney is a “Cristom Vineyards renowned for their excellent Oregon Pinot Noirs.  The cool weather Syrah with lots of black pepper and raspberry is half its normal price.  At $17.49, it works deliciously with Leg of Lamb, or Beef Stew.”

He’ll be pouring great wines for under $15.00.  Now, that’s a bargain!

COWS THAT TYPE...

CLICK, CLACK, MOO

Dear Mommy and Daddy,

We want to go to this.

Sincerely,
Your Kids.

As a father of two young boys who took their story time seriously, nothing made bedtime more enjoyable than when they chose one of the books from the Click, Clack, Moo series.  These Animal Farm-meets-Gary Larson titles are genius in their wonderful humor and hilarious artwork. Their apparent simplicity makes you think “damn, I wish I would’ve wrote this,” but the fact that you can discover something new to laugh at every time you read the books reveals what masterpieces they really are.

After a few delays, Rene Peeters has opened his intimate and casual restaurant, World Piece Café.  The boutique next to A Few of My Favorite Things which carries treasures and art is reflected in the décor of World Piece.  It seats around 40 people and the expanded menu – remember he owned Watel’s – combines a little bit of this and a little bit of that from his travels all over the world.  He says the Euro-Tex is an international palate pleaser and with his French background, the sauces are scrumptious.
