Lakewood

Despite recent redevelopment, Lakewood has plenty of architecture from the turn of the last century which we predict will remain.  More laid back than PC; her favorite kissing cousin west of central - pride and traditions run deep for the mix of families, singles and gay couples.  Bound by Gaston, Abrams, Mockingbird and the Lake, they are die-hard lake enthusiasts given it’s just a few minutes walk or bike ride and it’s 10 minutes to downtown.  The choice of individually owned restaurants, boutiques and personal services has grown in recent years.  With plans for new mixed use developments near the spillway, the neighborhood is coming into her own professionally speaking.  See also Upper East Side and White Rock Lake.

Lakewood Theater

Burlesque Comedy Show

Remember the I Love Lucy skit when she was in burlesque costume trying to break into the movies in a movie scene– my favorite part was when the star (not Lucy) was shot with a gun and Lucy took the opportunity to pretend she was shot to get the attention of the director and producer.  Although it didn’t work out, she got back at them by writing her name on the bottom of her shoe so viewers would know who she was.  Hold that thought and magnify The Amour Show performance to the Nth degree.

COWS THAT TYPE...

CLICK, CLACK, MOO

Dear Mommy and Daddy,

We want to go to this.

Sincerely,
Your Kids.

As a father of two young boys who took their story time seriously, nothing made bedtime more enjoyable than when they chose one of the books from the Click, Clack, Moo series.  These Animal Farm-meets-Gary Larson titles are genius in their wonderful humor and hilarious artwork. Their apparent simplicity makes you think “damn, I wish I would’ve wrote this,” but the fact that you can discover something new to laugh at every time you read the books reveals what masterpieces they really are.
