Henderson

Now that Henderson Avenue has come into its own, referring to it as Knox-Henderson is done.  It clearly has its historical roots and personality firmly planted east of Central (I-75).  The cute storefronts are close to the street and makes walking a little tricky but that’s part of the charm.  If you don’t live walking distance from it, thank goodness for valets!  Preserving enough of the architecture to give it character and an excellent mix of restaurants, bars, home furnishings and antique shops have contributed to its growth.  Its popularity with all ages has showcased the area and spurred the development of new apartment communities and homes.  As a result, Henderson’s gems now extend all the way to Ross Avenue.

Guys and Dolls 09

Jones Walker Home
3010 N. Henderson Avenue

Despite the downpour, luck was definitely with the organizers of Guys and Dolls said co-chair Jay Nolen.  The annual event which had been held at Uptown Vision the past few years had clearly outgrown that location.  Owners of Jones Walker Home; Tony Walker, Max Jones and Mirabel Leon happily agreed to host the event at their in-town store.  The furniture gallery moved to Henderson Avenue to roomier digs and ample parking last year from their original location in Uptown next to Primos.

Works by local artists were available in addition to a silent auction.  Nolen said “Our event was a huge success and we raised over $22,000 in one night for AIDS Arms.  Jones Walker Gallery was an awesome venue.”
