Fair Park

Since the 1800’s people have traveled to Dallas for live shows, new gadgetry, live stock auctions, contests and thrill rides in the fall when the city’s Fair Park is magically transformed into the State Fair of Texas.  As part of a WPA work project under Roosevelt, the park got an art deco face lift for the 1936 State Fair expedition. To this day, it has the largest collection of art deco buildings in the country. The recently refurbished Cotton Bowl is a huge source of pride and so far has been able to keep the infamous TX/OU rivalry in place.  And while Big Tex only shows his face during the fair, it’s a year-round home to musicals, museums and a host of events every weekend. It’s only 3 minutes to Deep Ellum and The Cedars and 7 minutes to Lakewood.

Does Net Neutrality Loss = The New Ghetto

As a growing small media company owner, some of you know of my involvement in lobbying for Net Neutrality, which is the continued absence of regulation in regards to the Open Internet and something everyone should agree on and embrace.  This critical issue will be decided, as called by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski yesterday.  In the grand scheme of things, this affects all of us so today I’m encouraging all of you to learn about and support Net Neutrality and to encourage the FCC Board, located below, to vote against a Tier System on the Open Internet on December 21, 2010.

Big Bang Lite

A spark of madness inspired Councilman Dwaine Caraways’ personal declaration to get it back up after the City’s annual complimentary Independence Day shebang was temporarily defused by the Friends of Fair Parks’ failure to launch due to the charge of economic uncertainty which took this year’s patriotic boom by complete surprise.

I think witty Benjamin Franklin would have found great humor in the now you see it, now you don’t, Cinco de Julio fireworks show with leftover fireworks and a generous donation by Gold Metal Recyclers.  Thanks to the 11th hour sponsor; the Pyrotechnic Spree is saved!
