Gabe Meadows at Times Ten Cellars
Gabe’s classic repertoire mixes jazz, R&B, pop, soft rock and classic crooning and is so versatile that he’s sang with jazz trumpeter Wynton Marsalis and Ella Fitzgerald’s long-time bassist Keeter Betts.
After stints in DC, San Fran, he has called Dallas home for nearly 20 years where he’s developed a loyal following.
Deep Ellum Art Walk 2011
Let’s get this out of the way before we tell you about one of our favorite art walks. After attending a meeting on the proposed steetscapes last week, I heard the same thing that’s said every time there is talk about renovations and restoration of Deep Ellum - “we don’t want to be Uptown!”.
Okay one last time with feeling, Deep Ellum will never be Uptown, Bishop Arts or the Miracle Mile. It will progress, it will mature and it will grow into what it is supposed to be as a major player in the Central Business District and we need to accept that it will never be what it was when we were standing in line in the 80’s. With nearby housing in Treemont, Munger Place, Bryan Place, Junius Heights, Lakewood and Lake Highlands filled with younger boomers and older Gen Xr’s who want good dining and shopping to go with our funk, music, preservation of Deep Ellum buildings and memories, change is inevitable, however we can be influential in how it plays out by supporting the businesses and staying involved. Guitarist Matt Barron at Gators
Guitarist and sultry singer, Matt Barron will perform on Saturday at Gators. He has a distinctive hoarse voice that works for his performances of covers in a style, tempo and rhythm that reminds me of how a lower keyed Bruce Springsteen might sound if he were playing at an after gig, on the down low, in a NOLA bar. Cool!
An Evening at The Majestic Theatre with PAULA POUNDSTONE
From Sesame Street to Wait, Wait…..Don’t Tell Me and A Prairie Home Companion, spontaneous funny lady, Paula Poundstone is a frequent guest of the Late Show with David Letterman, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and The Tonight Show and will be here next Friday, February 25th.
When Poundstone ponders out loud people often say, dang, wish I’d thought of that so instead they quote her on Facebook in their status update even though she’s not dead. It’s quite a feat to be included among the dead.
