A Tribute to Rusty Weir
To know Texas legend Rusty Wier was to love him. One of the most prolific and colorful Texas artists ever to grace the stage, Wier was described as “the World’s Greatest Saloon Entertainer” and was best known for the track Don’t It Make You Wanna Dance, a version of which was recorded by Bonnie Raitt and became a hit when it appeared on the soundtrack of Urban Cowboy.

Art in the Hood VIII Studio Tour
Each year at this time, this group of established artists whose works are sought after nationally and internationally open their studios for demonstrations and discussion. Located in the Southeast Dallas area within close proximity, there’s nothing “hoody” about it.
The piece shown is by Leila Strauch of Brazil. Strauch learned her craft while sitting quietly in church studying the stained glass as a child. Her Mother would reward her quietness by taken her around to the church windows afterward so she could study the glass pieces in detail.

With the Women's Chorus of Dallas
It's Her Party
Lesley Gore will cry if she wants to at this concert with the Women’s Chorus of Dallas but we’re thinking the Grammy winner and Academy Award nominee probably won’t. The Jersey girl and Sara Lawrence graduate has a lot to smile about after having been a teen wonder between 1963-1967 when she recorded hits such as It’s My Party, Judy’s Turn to Cry, She’s a Fool, That’s the Way Boys Are, Maybe I know, The Look of Love and Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows with her very young record producer at the time, Quincy Jones.

Work Prints: Commerce Street Bridge to Westmoreland Road
Remembering the first time I drove east out of downtown towards the city impound lot – don’t ask – and while crossing the Commerce Street bridge, continuing on, I noticed a series of old, abandoned hotels, gas stations and other buildings that all somehow still possessed a charm, style and unique architecture that hearkened back to a simpler era in our city’s history.
