Bishop Arts/Oakcliff

The Bishop Arts and North Oak Cliff neighborhood feels more like old-school SoHo.  Bohemian gift, antique shops, galleries and dining surrounded by an economically diverse neighborhood are the mainstays for residents in nearby Kessler Park and Stevens Park which is surrounded by a beautiful public golf course.  Natives are protective of the quaint historic and charming store fronts.  Because of Bishop Arts non-exclusive feel and lower real estate price tag, first-rate established restaurants have gained renewed interest from intrigued visitors and new locals, who are moving in, after discovering it’s only a 5-minute trek across the river from of downtown.

Dude, get rid of it! Did you know that 2.5 billion lbs. of textiles are recycled every year? We know it means spending a little time dealing with closets and drawers first, but The Earth will thank you - and it’s a drive-through.

Oak Cliff Earth Day

Lake Cliff Park will host the ever growing 5th annual Oak Cliff Earth Day.

In a paradoxical twist of irony, Walmart is one of their sponsors. Well, as somebody once said, “It’s good to keep your friends close and your enemies even closer!”.

Buy plants, art from local artists, learn about bees, butterflies, organic gardening, hybrid vehicles and you can even donate blood or adopt a pet. There will be entertainment all day. Bring a little pocket change, food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Hatties

We get that mid-western and Easterners think catfish are bottom feeders but if you really want to do what the locals do, the pecan encrusted catfish will make a believer out of anyone.  And with one of their designer salads such as the Knife and Fork Caesar or our favorite, the Spinach with chopped hard boiled egg, the Mac and Cheese is a meal for two. That and a bottle of wine and it feels like you’re being a little naughty.  No visit would be complete without the Friend Green Tomatoes (shown).

Thank you for checking us out.

After waiting out the bad economy these past five years, it’s on!  Intownmix is growing up to what it was originally designed; a Business-to-Business Web Magazine for small business owners and family owned businesses (large & small) with a Lifestyle Business-to-Consumer Guide. In the coming weeks, the weekly newsletter will get a make-over but no worries, it will still be chock-full of sass, unique business stories and happenings by entertainment district.

Does Net Neutrality Loss = The New Ghetto

As a growing small media company owner, some of you know of my involvement in lobbying for Net Neutrality, which is the continued absence of regulation in regards to the Open Internet and something everyone should agree on and embrace.  This critical issue will be decided, as called by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski yesterday.  In the grand scheme of things, this affects all of us so today I’m encouraging all of you to learn about and support Net Neutrality and to encourage the FCC Board, located below, to vote against a Tier System on the Open Internet on December 21, 2010.
