Arts District

Many of Dallas’ original French, Irish, Mexican, Italian and African-American families have been baptized in the Arts District since 1876. That’s when St. Paul United Methodist Church for freed Slaves opened. In 1902, the historic Sacred Heart Cathedral, now known as, the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe opened. In 2009, The Winspear Opera House and the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre opened along with numerous arts groups who joined the DMA, the Nasher Sculpture Center and the DSO, already located there. The premier arts district has a few restaurants and with eateries in Uptown, Downtown, Deep Ellum and the West End nearby, it’s easy for locals and visitors to get to the museums, cultural selections and festivals with plenty of time to spare.
