Dallas Summer Musicals

The 2009-2010 70th Season includes Mary Poppins and 101 Dalmatians.  With a brief interruption just before WWII and for remodeling in 1960’s, the State Fair Musical Hall Stage now managed by Dallas Summer Musicals has been in continuous operation since it first began with performances they produced in the band shell in 1941.  The DSM no longer produces plays, however, it is a year round venue for first run touring Broadway Shows.

Teatro Dallas

Established in 1985 by Jeff Hurst and Cora Cardona, Teatro Dallas is a professional theater presenting classical and contemporary plays by Latino playwrights that reflect the various cultural experiences of the Latino community.  The theater hosts the annual International Theater Festival and conducts acting classes for children and adults.

Turtle Creek Chorale-Sammons Center for the Arts

3630 Harry Hines Boulevard Dallas, Texas

Founded in 1980, the 225 member Turtle Creek Chorale is one of the world’s premier men’s choruses and the world’s most recorded men’s chorus.  They perform an annual full concert series at its performance home, the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. They have presented concerts in North America and Europe.

Theater Three Inc.

Theatre Three produces seven mainstage productions each year in addition to special children’s performances, off-site educational outreach, special event productions and the programming in Theatre Too (the basement performing space). Theatre Too currently houses a six show season of original plays, adaptations of literary works, musical revues, and biographical drama.

The McKinney Avenue Contemporary Museum- The MAC

3120 McKinney Ave Dallas, Texas 75204

Located in the former Potts Longhorn Leather Company’s 18,000 square foot building, the MAC is the first venue in North Texas dedicated to presenting contemporary visual and performing art as well as lecture series. The royal blue painted MAC was founded in 1994 and houses productions of the Kitchen Dog Theater.

The Dallas Wind Symphony

Founded in 1985, the Dallas Wind Symphony is “comprised of 50 woodwind, brass and percussion members who play an eclectic blend of musical styles ranging from Bach to Bernstein and Sousa to Strauss.” The group performs at the Meyerson Symphony Center and at the historic Fair Park Bandshell.


The Dallas Theater Center

3636 Turtle Creek Boulevard Dallas, Texas

Founded in 1954, the Dallas Theater Center currently calls the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Kalita Humphries Theater on the banks of Turtle Creek home.  The company produces at least 5 contemporary and classical plays per season. The Dallas Theater Center is set to move to its new home, the Dee and Charles Wyly Theater in 2009.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra

Under the direction of Jaap van Zweden, the award winning Dallas Symphony Orchestra is the largest performing arts organization in the southwest.  It was founded in 1900 and has grown from 40 musicians to nearly 100 today.  The DSO tours extensively, records CD’s and performs special community and education concerts at the Myerson Symphony Center.

The Dallas Symphony Chorus

The Dallas Symphony Chorus is the official vocal ensemble of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.  Founded in 1977, the volunteer chorus consists of more than 200 voices-61 sopranos, 53 altos, 42 tenors, and 51 bass baritones. The chorus has graced the stage at New York’s Carnegie Hall nearly a dozen times.


The Dallas String Quartet

Let the classical sounds of two violins, a viola, and a cello serenade your sweetheart. The Dallas String Quartet are Meadows School for the Arts graduates and also attended famous European schools. The Quartet plays an average of 75 weddings and private/corporate events every year.
