DONNA HARRIS, Owner/Publisher

Donna Harris created and launched Dallas’ first weekly, social-media lifestyle web magazine, when Google was 2 1/2 years old, in 2001, for the Uptown Entertainment District and organized the first consistent monthly art gallery walk in urban Dallas.  Both visions were designed to bring as many friends together, to appreciate urban living, and make art in Dallas approachable.

She deeply appreciates the registered recipients of Intownmix who share her  "Are you in?" vision of bringing all kinds of people together, to interact and influence ideas, for the common good.  Without them, the foundation for creating a trusted web magazine for contemporary Dallas, would be not possible.

A 4th generation Dallasite and the 5th of 6 Children, she earned a BA with honors in Social Science from the University of Texas at Dallas and feels an ardor for cultures, subcultures and trends is perfect for anyone interested in accepting who they are, marketing, publishing, or parenthood.  Her journalism foray began when she was in Junior High, while writing about the social antics and goings-on of her Girl Scout troop, for the Mesquite Daily News.

Prior to her work with the Uptown Association and PID, (See LINKEDIN.com) she co-owned a private investigation company for 15 years.  Among her many volunteer efforts from community activist to raising funds, she's most proud of continuing the legacy of co-organizing Girl Scout troops for her daughters and mentoring & tutoring children whose mothers were known prostitutes.

In addition to plotting fundraisers, carnivals and cocktail parties, for the PTA in DISD, she's designed more than a plethora of school and neighborhood parade floats.  When not plotting, Donna loves to study, write, concept & create and rejuvenates by swimming, gardening, traveling, cooking, hanging out on the net, meeting up with interesting people, sharing wine and is never without music. When her nest emptied this fall, she and the menagerie of animals left behind, have enjoyed their spare time, finding themselves.

Little did she know speaking annoyingly in third person from the back of the LTD Station Wagon - with the fake wood grain siding - to get the attention of her late parents, would actually come in handy in publishing and social media networking.

With a little advanced notice, Donna is available for public speaking and guest lecturing. With humor, poignancy and just the facts, she covers various topics including Promoting Arts Authentically,  Navigating Public Education, Subcultures; Everyone Belongs To More Than One and Women In Technology.

AMANDA PRESTON, Freelance Writer; Intownmix

Like many native Dallas girls, growing up, Amanda Preston loved 4-H, dancing and horseback riding.  She has lived in Germany for several years, served as a broadcast journalist for the United States Army in both European and Asian theaters and recently earned a Bachelor's degree in Literature from the University of Texas at Dallas, magna cum laude, and is currently a Teaching Assistant at UTD while she finishes her M.A.

Married to SSG Mathew C. Preston, who is currently serving the nation on his third deployment to the Middle East, Amanda is organizing their new home in Allen. When she is not writing for school or letters to her husband, she composes and studies poetry and is a confessed book-o-holic with a severe coffee addiction.  She'll be writing about visual arts and literature for Intownmix.
