Shake Rattle & Roll
You know them for classic faves songs, Bales of Cocaine, Galaxy 500 and Martini Time but on their latest CD, the Reverend says “Laughin’ and Cryin’, is a record full of country-heavy tunes about bad habits and well-meaning but clueless husbands and, well, Texas!” After more than 20 years of traveling around the world, the psychobilly internationally acclaimed band, the Reverend Horton Heat says they are determined to put the honk back in honky-tonk with funny crowd pleasing songs about every day Joe’s and other signature songs.
This Saturday, the band will play at Life in Deep Ellum with a rare appearance thanks to bass player Jimbo Wallace who’s a Dad at Stonewall. Benefiting Stonewall Jackson Elementary the annual fundraiser founded in 2001 includes a full dinner by Primo’s, drinks, auction and live music. Also playing will be The Charming Gardeners led by Zounds Sounds owner Marc Solomon.
In much the same way many communities support Lakewood Elementary during the annual home tour, we’re impressed that public schools like Stonewall and Hexter Elementary over the years have branched out with events that draw community supporters just because it’s a fun event, regardless of whether their children attend or not!
Live auction items includes week at a home on the island of Oland off the East Coast of Sweden, a week in Beaver Creek, week long stay in Akumal, Mexico just south of Cancun, Football signed by the entire Dallas Cowboy team, wine refrigerator that holds 45 bottles of your favorite vino and much more.
Chairs Debra Bishop, Natalie Clarkson, Helene Honeybone and Tammy Murchison said Stonewall’s annual budget was cut by 50% and Shake, Rattle & Roll will directly fund the computer technology instruction program, improvements to the blacktop, the outdoor science laboratory and garden program, teacher grants and classroom equipment. Rock on! DHarris
