Call to Artists
Henderson Art Project
It’s no secret that the east side of central is a haven for artists and independent minded folks. With that in mind, the Henderson Art Project – the HAP – in partnership with the Texas Sculpture Association is hoping to see a healthy showing of east sider’s enter the first annual sculpture contest. Seven pieces will be selected for the public works urban art project that will dramatically add visual depth to Henderson Avenue.
The seven sculptures this year and each subsequent year will be chosen by Jury. Each set will be on view for two years on selected corners. In the spirit of the WPA work programs of the 1930's, of the Seven chosen, each will receive an $800 stipend to help with expenses. After the final installation of the winners, a public vote will determine the final prize monies totaling $7,500 (3,500/2,500/1,500) to the top three. The selected Jurors of art and urban renewal professionals from throughout the Metroplex will determine the original Urban Seven.
The project is being organized by PhD candidate Scott Trent from the University of Texas at Dallas and is sponsored by Andres Properties and Phoenix Property Company.
