Drop off Textiles for Recycle and benefit Heart House Dallas
Dude, get rid of it! Did you know that 2.5 billion lbs. of textiles are recycled every year? If you want to be authentic Saturday, April 23rd, drop off clothes, shoes, belts, handbags, toys and stuffed animals, sheets and other gently owned soft goods between 10 am - 5 pm. We know it means spending a little time dealing with closets and drawers first, but The Earth will thank you - and it’s a drive-through.

Trees in Deep Ellum hosts classic experience
The club scene is the natural place to revel in contrary and Trees will host a concert by the Orchestra of New Spain, including works by a 17th century Italian composer, who happens to be a woman. Contrarian Isabella Leonarda (shown), (September 1620 – 25 February 1704) entered the Collegio de Sant’Orsola, an Ursuline convent in Novara at the age of 16 where she created more than 200 compositions until her death at the age of 84.

Oak Cliff Earth Day
Lake Cliff Park will host the ever growing 5th annual Oak Cliff Earth Day.
In a paradoxical twist of irony, Walmart is one of their sponsors. Well, as somebody once said, “It’s good to keep your friends close and your enemies even closer!”.
Buy plants, art from local artists, learn about bees, butterflies, organic gardening, hybrid vehicles and you can even donate blood or adopt a pet. There will be entertainment all day. Bring a little pocket change, food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Deep Ellum Art Walk 2011
Let’s get this out of the way before we tell you about one of our favorite art walks. After attending a meeting on the proposed steetscapes last week, I heard the same thing that’s said every time there is talk about renovations and restoration of Deep Ellum - “we don’t want to be Uptown!”.
Okay one last time with feeling, Deep Ellum will never be Uptown, Bishop Arts or the Miracle Mile. It will progress, it will mature and it will grow into what it is supposed to be as a major player in the Central Business District and we need to accept that it will never be what it was when we were standing in line in the 80’s. With nearby housing in Treemont, Munger Place, Bryan Place, Junius Heights, Lakewood and Lake Highlands filled with younger boomers and older Gen Xr’s who want good dining and shopping to go with our funk, music, preservation of Deep Ellum buildings and memories, change is inevitable, however we can be influential in how it plays out by supporting the businesses and staying involved. As a former baby barista to my own two daughters, I was excited to learn about the grand opening of the City of Dallas’ new Baby Café.
The community café concept started in England and the far North Dallas location at 8202 Spring Valley Road will be the 4th Baby Café in Texas. An international organization of drop-in centers for pregnant women and breastfeeding Mommies, there are eight Baby Cafés in the United States.

An Editorial Perry-dy
Sincerely, The Hotter Than Hell Perry PrayerFest Disciple Committee
Dear Jesus,
The Disciple Committee of 12 has just completed a careful evaluation of your participation for admission to the first annual “Hotter Than Hell Perry PrayerFest”. While the Committee was impressed by your overall record of healing the sick, raising the dead, feeding the hungry, forgiveness and teachings of unconditional love, at this time we feel, while your qualifications are admirable, your philosophy does not mirror the overall goals of the American Family Association’s values.

City of Dallas Expands Recycling Program
There aren’t many ways to bring sexy back when it comes to talking garbage but this week, the City of Dallas, got a little closer to turning a lot of you on by partnering with the Carton Council to launch a food and beverage carton recycling initiative. The program allows, for the first time, the recycling of waxy coated boxes.

Easter in the Park
After Sunday Brunch, we’ll pack our Easter dessert and head out to Pooch on Parade and the DSO. My Max the Shepherd (bottom left) won’t be there. As you can see he stands very tall and hates it when people mistake him for Harvey and ask for his pawtograph.

Creek Creez followed by Creek Crawl/Easter in the Park
After weeks of sad sack Mildred Pierce, I’m only half kidding when I say, there comes a time when competing with adorable kids and dogs just becomes too much competition because, dammit, my Easter Bonnet is just too fabulous!
Luckily Easter in the Park or Creek Crawl if you celebrate Passover, got so large by the Pooch Parade’s success, the Turtle Creek Association has added a 2nd event this weekend called Creek Craze. It includes a concert with Eddie Coker, Easter Egg Rolls and a Pet Costume Contest, face painting and balloon animals for children. Groups or individuals can have photographs taken with a live bunny for a fee. Award-winning deejay Jennifer Miller along with fellow deejay Paul Parades will keep things spinning while local band Alebrije will be playing tunes during the afternoon. Local restaurants will be on-site offering specialty fare, including beer, wine and margaritas.
