The Claremont Trio

After having performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington and Carnegie Hall this fall as part of their 10th anniversary season, the Claremont Trio is currently on a nationwide tour and will be performing for one night only as part of the Dallas Chamber Music’s season.
The trio made up of twin sisters Emily Bruskin (violin) and Julia Bruskin (cello) with Donna Kwong (piano) was formed in 1999 by the girls at The Juilliard School.

Art in the Hood VIII Studio Tour
Each year at this time, this group of established artists whose works are sought after nationally and internationally open their studios for demonstrations and discussion. Located in the Southeast Dallas area within close proximity, there’s nothing “hoody” about it.
The piece shown is by Leila Strauch of Brazil. Strauch learned her craft while sitting quietly in church studying the stained glass as a child. Her Mother would reward her quietness by taken her around to the church windows afterward so she could study the glass pieces in detail.

Playboy Illustration Lecture
Special guest Aaron Baker, Curator of the Playboy Collection and the one man who probably knows more about the iconic publication’s history than anyone else – besides Hef, of course – will host the discussion about the collection, which is being held in conjunction with the Heritage auction of more than 100 pieces of original Playboy paintings and drawings during its Vintage Comics and Comic Art event on February 25-27.

14th Annual International Festival
Teatro Dallas, celebrating 25 years will hold its 14th International Festival and Workshop. The event will be celebrated with works of theatrical performances every weekend in February either at the Latino Cultural Center or Teatro Dallas’ permanent home on Record Crossing on the Trinity River. Groups groups from Mexico, Spain, Belgium and the United States will perform according to director Cora Cordona.

Dallas Contemporary
After a lot of reconstruction and a few delays, the Dallas Contemporary is re-opening at its new location in the Design District.
An exhibit, Warnings & Instructions by James Gilbert seems an apropos title for the inaugural show of the new space and the artists will be in attendance. Gilbert’s work is a large-scale site specific installation and is described as “a pink airplane fuselage in three parts overpowering nearby teetering life boats in unsettling analysis of travel safety and security.” His pience includes multi-media sculptures, audio as well as a visual component.

The Home furnishings, accessories and artisan store that carries an enormous selection of products produced and purchased at Fair Trade prices and paid to village workers throughout the world will reopen after moving into larger digs. They carry furniture, clothing, bedding, musical instruments, writing journals and other culturally interesting things you won’t find anywhere else. Festivities include complimentary massages from 4 -6 with give-aways during this time, cooking demonstrations from 5 – 7, Palm Readings from 6 - 8, complimentary nibbles, beer and wine from 6 - 10 and a Flamenco Performance by Pedro Partida from 7 – 10 pm.
